General Subscription Terms and Conditions

Introduction

These General Subscription Terms and Conditions apply to all subscriptions that provide access to:

• The printed and/or digital edition of the newspaper
• The premium articles available via the newspaper’s websites and mobile apps.

Subscriptions are offered by Mediahuis NV, located at Katwilgweg 2, 2050 Antwerp, Belgium. Mediahuis is part of the Mediahuis Group.

Additional terms and conditions may apply to specific promotions.

These General Subscription Terms and Conditions must be read in conjunction with other Mediahuis policies, such as the Privacy Policy , Cookie Policy and Terms of Use. Mediahuis’s services may contain links to third-party websites, platforms or services that are not owned or controlled by Mediahuis. Mediahuis has no control over and accepts no responsibility for the content, availability, security, privacy policy or practices of such third-party websites, platforms or services.

1. Offer

These terms and conditions apply to all our subscription packages:

Full (Family)

• Unlimited access to all Plus articles
• The digital newspaper every day 
• A printed newspaper on Saturdays
• A printed newspaper every weekday

• wknd (Family)
  • Unlimited access to all Plus articles 
  • Access to the digital newspaper every day
  • A printed newspaper on Saturdays
    
• wknd XL (family):
  • Unlimited access to all Plus articles 
  • Access to the digital newspaper every day
  • A printed newspaper on Saturdays
  • A printed newspaper on Monday or Friday
    
• digi (family):
  • Unlimited access to all Plus articles 
  • Access to the digital newspaper every day
    
• Basic:
  • Unlimited access to all Plus articles and podcasts from one newspaper
• Youth package -26:
  • Unlimited access to all Plus articles 
• De Standaard en français:
  • Unlimited access to De Standaard en français.

Offers cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.

Prices are in euros and include VAT (where applicable). In the event of changes to the VAT system or rate, Mediahuis may pass on the increase in VAT.

The rate offered is valid for the chosen subscription period.

If you renew your subscription after a promotional period or after an initial subscription period of a specific duration, you will pay the standard rate applicable at that time.

Delivery costs are included in the stated price, unless otherwise stated.

All offers are available for a limited time and in limited quantities.

We take great care to ensure that our products, prices and other terms and conditions are described correctly. If there is an error in the description of our products, the price and/or other terms and conditions, you may choose to cancel the order or accept the offer under the correct terms and conditions.

Mediahuis reserves the right to change the prices, media and publication frequency of its newspapers at any time. The specification of sections, supplements or the number of pages is always subject to change.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Mediahuis shall not be liable if any of the products or services (newspaper, magazine, website, apps, etc.) in its range undergo changes or are discontinued, nor for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of profit or revenue, whether suffered directly or indirectly. 
Any changes to prices, packages or terms and conditions will be communicated to you in good time, including any option to cancel.

The discount on a subscription is calculated on the basis of the single-issue price at the newsagent’s and/or the digital kiosk, unless otherwise stated.

2. Order

When you take out a subscription with Mediahuis, the following terms and conditions apply:

• Minimum age:
  You must be 18 years of age or older to take out a subscription. If you are under 18, the order must be placed by a parent or legal guardian.
• Personal subscription:
  The subscription is personal and registered in your name. You may not transfer the subscription to anyone else.
  
  Additional readers:
  Depending on the subscription package you have chosen, your subscription includes one or more Mediahuis accounts. As a subscriber, you may grant access to additional users. With the exception of business subscriptions, only persons registered at the same address as the subscriber may use these accounts. Each user has their own Mediahuis account.
  In My Mediahuis, you will find an up-to-date overview of your subscription package and the maximum number of accounts included in your subscription. 
• The ordering process:
  When placing an order, you must fill in all the requested details correctly and in full.
  To complete the order, you must explicitly agree to these Subscription Terms and Conditions. After you confirm the order, Mediahuis will check whether you satisfy the conditions of the offer.
• Business subscriptions:
  A subscription for a company or organisation must be taken out in the name of the company or organisation. The name of a contact person must be provided.
• Gift subscriptions:
  If you receive a gift subscription, you have up to six months to activate it. It can be activated via the specific instructions and channels provided by Mediahuis.
• +Plus:
  If you have a full (family), wknd (XL, family), digi (family) or Youth Formula -26 subscription to one of the following titles: De Standaard, Nieuwsblad, De Gentenaar, Gazet van Antwerpen or Het Belang van Limburg, you will also have access to the +Plus articles from the other four newspapers.
  +Plus applies only to Mediahuis accounts linked to your subscription.
• Prices:
  The subscription prices are as stated in the relevant offer at the time of ordering.
• Verification and payment:
  After you place your order, Mediahuis will check whether you meet the terms and conditions of the offer. If this is not the case, your subscription will not be activated or, if already started, will be cancelled. If you have already paid but do not meet the terms and conditions, any deliveries already made may be charged at the standard prices applicable at that time.
  
  If Mediahuis does not receive your payment, the subscription will not be activated or will be terminated, even if it has already started.
  
  By taking out a subscription, you confirm that you understand and accept these terms and conditions.

3. Payment

Payment methods
Payments can be made by direct debit, credit card, bank transfer or online payment. For direct debit or credit card payments, the amount is debited automatically each month.

Liability and payment security
Mediahuis does not guarantee that the payment methods offered will always function without error or interruption. Mediahuis is not liable for any damage resulting from disruptions in the payment process.

Non-payment
If Mediahuis does not receive payment, the subscription will not be activated or will be suspended, even if delivery has already commenced.

4. Delivery

For the printed edition of the full, wknd (XL) subscription, we will always select the most suitable means of distribution, depending on the region and circumstances.

We do our utmost to deliver our newspapers within the specified delivery period.

Delivery will be made to the delivery address you provide when placing your order. Any change of address or temporary interruption must be notified via customer service.

For delivery outside Belgium, you must contact us in advance; additional charges will apply, and delivery abroad is subject to availability.

5. Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from your contract within 14 days of receiving the first publication, without giving any reason. This period begins on the day on which you, or a third party designated by you (other than the carrier), takes physical possession of the publication.

How to exercise your right of withdrawal?
To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must notify Mediahuis in writing or by email. You may use the model withdrawal form below, but this is not mandatory.

Refund in the event of withdrawal
If you withdraw, all payments, including standard delivery costs, will be refunded. Additional costs for a more expensive delivery option will not be refunded. Mediahuis will refund you using the same payment method that you used, unless otherwise agreed. This refund will be made within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal request, but may be delayed until:

• The goods have been returned, or
• You have provided proof of return, whichever occurs first.
  

Obligations regarding returns
Goods already received must be returned to Mediahuis within 14 days of your cancellation request. You are responsible for the cost of returning the goods. You are deemed to have met the deadline if you dispatch the goods before the period expires.

6. Protection of personal data

Processing of your data
Mediahuis processes your personal data for customer management and the performance of the contract. You can find more information on how we process your data in our Privacy Policy.

7. Use of the subscription

Access to digital content
Access is only possible if you are logged in to a Mediahuis account linked to your subscription.
Depending on your subscription plan, your subscription may grant access to one or more Mediahuis accounts. Each of these accounts has access to the digital content included in the subscription.

Personal use

Your Mediahuis account is strictly personal. Sharing account details is not permitted.
If your subscription grants access to multiple users, each user must use their own Mediahuis account. The subscription is taken out in the subscriber’s name and remains their responsibility.
If the subscription grants access to multiple users, only those users invited by the subscriber may use the subscription within the limits of the chosen subscription package.
All users of an account linked to a personal subscription must reside at the same address. In the case of corporate subscriptions or subscriptions taken out by associations, linked accounts may only be granted to employees of the company or members of the relevant association.

A Mediahuis account may only be used on one device at a time. In the event of simultaneous use, Mediahuis may restrict access or terminate an active session. If it transpires that the subscription and/or the accounts are being used in breach of these terms and conditions, Mediahuis reserves the right to take appropriate measures, including, but not limited to, suspending or terminating the use of the Mediahuis accounts and/or charging additional fees.

8. Duration of the subscription

Your subscription may be taken out:

1. For a fixed term: At the end of the chosen subscription period, your subscription will be automatically renewed for an indefinite period, unless you cancel at least 14 days before the end of the fixed term.
2. For an indefinite period: Your subscription continues in successive one-month periods. You may cancel at any time, subject to a notice period of at least 14 days before the start of the next monthly subscription period.

Cancellation
You may cancel via our customer service department, as stated in the masthead of your newspaper, or via My Mediahuis.

9. Finally

By placing an order, you confirm that you have read and accept these General Subscription Terms and Conditions.

Mediahuis reserves the right to amend these General Subscription Terms and Conditions. The current General Subscription Terms and Conditions are always available on the website.

Applicable law and competent courts

• This agreement is governed exclusively by Belgian law.
• Disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Antwerp.
