In recent weeks, several of our newsrooms had reason to celebrate. Aachener Zeitung, Belfast Telegraph and Irish Independent have been officially recognised as partners of The Trust Project. At the end of July, the Mediahuis Luxembourg titles (Luxemburger Wort, Luxembourg Times, Virgule, Contacto and Telecran) already achieved the same milestone. NRC will follow shortly.
The Trust Project is a global initiative that brings together more than 300 news organisations committed to transparency, credibility and responsible journalism. The editorial teams mentioned above have successfully completed the full accreditation process and have received the official Trust Mark: an internationally recognised label that helps strengthen public confidence.
The Trust Project works with eight so‑called Trust Indicators: journalistic principles designed to promote transparency about sources, clear content labelling and the active inclusion of diverse voices. These indicators help news consumers better assess the reliability of information and contribute to building trust in independent journalism.
In a world where fact and fiction increasingly blur and information is accessible everywhere, people are looking for sources they can rely on. For us, that trust is essential. It is at the heart of who we are and what we do, and it determines whether readers are willing to pay for our journalism and stay engaged with our stories.
“At Mediahuis, we believe in the power of independent journalism to inform and connect our society,” says Caroline Swanenberg, Head of Sustainability at Mediahuis Group. “Reliability is something all our newsrooms work on every single day. Joining The Trust Project reinforces our commitment to independent, trustworthy journalism.”
This recognition is a strong acknowledgement of the work our editorial teams deliver every day. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement—and to everyone who continues to dedicate themselves to journalism that truly matters.
